The Plot: Kung Fu Superman (aka Little Superman ) begins in a time of war, WWII to exact. We see that a plane has been shot down by guerrillas in Chung Shang. Inside the aircraft were documents to conquer Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Next we learn that Colonel Keno (James Nan) has found out about the guerrillas stealing the documents. He also finds out that they’re on there way to Hong Kong with them, thus setting up the films main plot, retrieve the stolen documents.

In Macu, Colonel Wong (Yuen San Wong) arrives seeking help from a wealthy real-estate baron, Pang (Siu-Lung Leung) whom also happens to be a martial arts expert. He’s asked Pang to help him find the documents before the Japanese do. This naturally sets the pace and plot for the remainder of the film.

The Takeaway: Kung Fu Superman is an interesting film in that it takes a plot and uses it to its advantage. Often times with low budget martial arts films plots are set aside for amazing (and in some cases, not so amazing) Kung Fu fighting scenes. In the case of Kung Fu Superman , the plot actually reaches the end of the film and wraps up nicely. This isn’t to say that there’s a lack of martial arts fighting, as the film is littered with such scenes, including a lengthy fight at the end of the film well worth waiting for. Despite having a plot and plenty of Kung Fu fighting, Kung Fu Superman is a long film and at 100 minutes it’s sometimes slow and tedious watch.

Film Facts: Kung Fu Superman (often referred to as Little Superman ) was directed by See-Yuen Ng and stars Siu-Lung Leung (Bruce Liang). See-Yuen Ng’s career as a filmmaker began at the Shaw Brothers Studios where he played assistant director to Jimmy Wang Yu’s The Chinese Boxer (1970). A few years later he founded Seasonal Films Corporation and went on to produce and co-write Drunken Master (1978) staring a young Jackie Chan. Siu-Lung Leung aka Bruce Liang has appeared in dozens and dozens of Hong Kong action/martial arts films and became known as one of the many Bruce Lee clones to pop up in the industry after Lee’s death. This sub-genre of film is known as Bruceploitation.

Thoughts In My Head: - OK, this has an interesting start (set in the era of WWII) - Damn, these Chinese need dental work, badly - Ouch, that dude took a melon to his melon - Awesome, scaling the walls like spiderman - And you thought sling-shots were just toys - These orphans look somewhat tough - I’m guessing there’s no nudity in this one - But the fights are fairly decent - Lucky I don’t have to count ass-kickn’s, there’s a ton of them here - This film is like my penis, longer than it needs to be - OK, this banjo should have broken apart long ago - DAMN! they killed a kid! - The Chinese have slightly better teeth than the Japanese, just slightly - That’s one big fucking sling-shot - This final fight is brutal - Pang looks like a tall version of Ernie Reyes Jr. (that’s not a compliment)

Favorite Badass or Badass Moment: Pang Favorite Boobs or Boobs in a Scene: Sorry kids, no boobs in this one Favorite Death Scene: While there are deaths in the film, they’re nothing to write home about

Boob Count: 0 pair Body Count: 6

IMDB Rating: 6.6 / 10 My Rating: 5.5 / 10

Final Thoughts: Kung Fu Superman turned out better than what I had anticipated. With an actual plot and above average fighting scenes, I say give it a shot. Trust me, you’ve seen worse!
