How It Started
Mike began watching horror films at a very early age when his father took him to see a double bill of House of Wax (starring Vincent Price) and Night of the Living Dead, back in 1971. House of Wax had just been re-released and was a 3D wonder, but the film that really got to him was George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. He couldn't sleep for nights after that one.
Mike grew up watching Creature Features hosted by Bob Wilkins on KTVU channel 2 in the San Francisco Bay Area. That early exposure to horror and cult cinema shaped a lifelong passion that eventually became the podcast.
The podcast community around Badasses, Boobs and Body Counts thrives on a shared love of the grindhouse and exploitation traditions that shaped genre cinema across the decades. Each episode dives into a different B-movie, martial arts showcase, or horror oddity, giving listeners a chance to revisit forgotten gems and rediscover the raw energy that made low-budget filmmaking so compelling. The hosts balance genuine affection for the material with sharp, entertaining commentary, ensuring that even the most obscure titles get their moment in the spotlight. It is a space where cult film fans can gather, trade recommendations, and celebrate the unpolished charms of drive-in era cinema.
From zombie epics to martial arts classics, the show has covered a wide swath of the exploitation spectrum, keeping the conversation lively and unpredictable. Listeners can follow along through a variety of platforms, making it easy to tune in whether they are longtime devotees or newcomers curious about the genre's wilder corners. The discussions often touch on the production histories, directorial choices, and cultural contexts that give these films their enduring appeal, offering more than simple plot recaps. It is this depth of engagement that sets the podcast apart and encourages fans to watch along and join the conversation each week.
The site also serves as an archive of past episodes, show notes, and community commentary, preserving the ongoing dialogue around this beloved corner of film history.
