I began watching horror films at a very early age when my father took me to see a double bill of House of Wax (starring Vincent Price) and Night of the Living Dead , back in 1971. House of Wax had just been re-released and was a 3D wonder, but the film that really got to me was George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead . I couldn’t sleep for nights after that one. What could my Father had been thinking? From this point however, I was hooked and every Saturday night I began to watch Creature Features hosted on KTVU (channel 2 in the San Francisco Bay Area) by Bob Wilkins. Bob introduced me to the weird, yet wonderful world of truly bad cinema by playing movies such as Weird Women , Target Earth and Monster From the Ocean Floor (just as advertised on his website).
This weirdness opened up a whole new world to me at a very young age and it progressed quickly as the years passed. I learned all about Hammer films and the wonderfully large boobs within. I learned there was an Italian film market, one that was yet stranger than what I had seen before. I learned about films coming from the far east and the crazy world of Hong Kong cinema. Then the 80′s came along and a new breed of horror films hit the market, the Slasher. This changed everything in terms of the horror genre and sprouted a slew of now classic horror films. The second the VHS market boomed and ma & pa rental stores opened up, I learned even more about the crazy wild world of bad cinema as I began renting films such as Satan’s Cheerleaders , Death Spa , Bare Hunt , Girl Fever and many others.
Badasses, Boobs and Body Counts I created this podcast to bring you reviews of lesser-known cinematic wonders. I’m going to be covering a wide variety of films such as Ngai Kai Lam’s Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky , Andy Sidaris’ Hard Ticket to Hawaii and Fred Olen Ray’s Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers . These are just a few I’m starting with so hang onto your private parts as I guarantee an exciting ride through a lesser-known world of somewhat forgotten cinema.
