In EP78 both Mike and Iris look at and discuss the Ted V. Mikels film 10 Violent Women (1982). While the episode run-time is shorter than usual, there’s no lack of laughs as we try our best to discuss the film and it’s attempt at recapturing the early 70’s women in prison craze, but fails to do so on all levels. So grab some cocaine and take a snort because if you’re gonna watch this poor excuse of a film, you’re gonna need to be high!

Coming up in EP31 In EP31 of the Badasses, Boobs and Body Counts Podcast, Mike will be joined by Mugumbo aka Lewis Cougill of the Traumatic Cinematic Podcast. Mike and Lewis have a look at TerrorVision (1986) and Starcrash (1978). This should prove to be an interesting discussion as Mike doesn’t seem to be a fan of TerrorVision and Lewis is. And the opposite can be said about Starcrash as Mike is a fan and Lewis isn’t. Should be a good time!

The Plot: Snowbeast begins in the snow covered mountains of Colorado. Jennifer (Kathy Christopher) and Heidi (Anne McEnroe) are out skiing when they come across some strange looking tracks in the snow. Seconds after this discovery, Jennifer is killed by some sort of large humanoid creature. In fear for her life, Heidi ski’s off and finds safety with the ski patrol at the Rill Lodge ski patrol shack. Next we’re introduced to Tony Rill (Robert Logan) and Mrs. Carrie Rill (Sylvia Sidney) whom are both preparing for the Rill Lodge 50th Anniversary Winter Carnival. It’s here we learn that the Rill Lodge Ski Resort is family owned and Tony is in line to inherit the lodge after his aging grandmother, Carrie, retires.
Next we meet Gar and Ellen Seberg. They’ve traveled a long way to see Tony as the three of them are old friends. We see that both Gar (Bo Svenson) and Ellen (Yvette Mimieux) don’t appear to be happy and that Gar has a chip of some sorts on his shoulder. Once meeting up with Tony, both Gar and Ellen settle in as Tony gives Gar a job as a ski instructor. Tony then races off to meet the sheriff at the Fairchild Farm. It seems that the Fairchild boy discovered a mutilated body in the family’s barn. Once Tony arrives, he and the sheriff identify the body as the missing girl, Jennifer. Alarmed by what they’ve found, Tony convinces his Grandmother to close part of the ski resort in order to keep the visitors safe (closing the so-called beach).
Back at Rill Lodge, Tony meets Ellen for lunch and discovers that her and Gar are unhappy. Their unhappiness steams from Gar not knowing what to do with himself after winning an Olympic Gold Medal back in the ’68 games. We also learn that Gar’s career had not gone as he had planned and its causing unneeded stress between the married couple. So, with a rampaging monster in the wilds, ski lodge clients dieing and the ski resort business quickly declining, Tony, Gar, Ellen and Sheriff Paraday (Clint Walker) set out to hunt down the Snowbeast.
The Takeaway: Snowbeast is a made for TV movie that clearly leaned on the success of JAWS just two years earlier. In fact, there are numerous similarities to that of JAWS (1975). Both JAWS and Snowbeast open with a tourist girl dying, showing the viewer a bloodied arm as evidence. Both JAWS and Snowbeast have authority figures unwilling to close down the resort/beach. Both JAWS and Snowbeast show hunters/fisherman killing a predator, thinking they’ve killed the problem while both lead protagonists in JAWS and Snowbeast , know better. These are just a few of the similarities as there are plenty more throughout the film.
Being similar to that of JAWS doesn’t make Snowbeast a bad film. In fact, I was quite surprised at just how good the film was. In all honesty, I was expecting it to be crap therefore I had no expectations whatsoever. I found the script to be rather well written, the performances above average and the story, albeit nearly identical to JAWS , well paced. I also felt the direction and editing of the film was very good. Regarding the script and what makes it work so well was the science that writer Joseph Stefano (more on this guy later) included in the film. Had he not taken the time to do some research on the Bigfoot phenomena, and then include it in the script, Snowbeast would have just turned out to be another Man vs Bigfoot film.
Film Facts: Snowbeast was a made for TV film directed by Herb Wallerstein, written by Joseph Stefano and filmed by Frank Stanely. As a director, Wallerstein’s background comes from TV where he directed such TV shows as I Dream of Jeannie , Star Trek (the original series), The Brady Bunch , Gunsmoke and Happy Days to name a few. Cinematographer Frank Stanley shot films such as Magnum Force (1973) starring Clint Eastwood, Willie Dynamite (1974), Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) also starring Clint Eastwood and Car Wash (1976) to name a few. The real surprise when it comes to the production of Snowbeast is writer Joseph Stefano. Stefano wrote a little screenplay known as Psycho (1960) and continued to write for TV and film throughout his career.
Thoughts In My Head: – Why does this film remind me of JAWS – Damn, Ellen is pretty hot in her ski-bunny outfit – Isn’t that the grandma from Mars Attacks – Are we ever gonna see the Snowbeast – This film almost feels like it could have been released theatrically – OK, that’s an ugly monster – I bet Mrs. Rill is wishing she had shut down the ski lodge right about now – I just realized that there won’t be any boobies in this movie
Favorite Badass or Badass Moment: Sorry kids, no badasses in this one Favorite Boobs or Boobs in a Scene: Sorry kids, no boobs in this one Favorite Death Scene: All deaths occur off screen or fade to black so noting stands out
Boob Count: 0 pair Body Count: 4
IMDB Rating: 4.3 / 10 My Rating: 5.0 / 10
Final Thoughts: I had never seen Snowbeast before so my expectations were on the low side. Thanks to the great writing of Joseph Stefano, and Cinematography of Frank Stanely, Snowbeast turned out to be better than what I had expected. It’s not a great film, but it’s one I’d recommend watching while doing things around the house.
The Plot: The Dallas Connection begins with a series of killings located in different countries around the world. We quickly learn that the men being targeted were to converge with each other at a scientific symposium in Dallas. The ladies doing the killings all have radios in which they communicate back to HQ after each death. And for some reason or another (you find out later), they video record each assassination.
Back in Dallas, a meeting is held at the agency where we learn about International World Arms Removal (IWAR). IWAR is a high-tech satellite project which detects everything from small arms movements, to full-blown weapons of mass destruction. What makes IWAR so different is its ability to see through the most severe weather conditions. We also learn that scientist Antonio Morales (Rodrigo Obregon) is headed to Dallas and needs to be protected as he is the key to getting IWAR online.
Once Morales arrives in Dallas, Agent Samantha Maxx (Samantha Phillips) is assigned to protect him. After her assignment begins, they’re off to watch the horse races and have a nice expensive dinner where Morals fantasizes about Maxx, whom nearly has sex with herself at the dinner table. Shortly after this (once Morales comes out of his daydream), the story begins to unfold and we see that Morales isn’t who he appears to be, so the “almost always naked” Federal Agents have to figure a way to stop Morales.
The Takeaway: I rather enjoyed The Dallas Connection . I can’t exactly put my finger on why I enjoyed it so much, I just know that when the film came to an end, I wrote in my notes ‘I like this film’. It’s not a whole lot different than previous Sidaris productions where half dressed big breasted Federal Agents run around shooting at everything that moves. So that’s not it. Maybe it was how the film ended (which I won’t give away). While most of Sidaris’ films end with the bad guys losing (and this one is no different), I think I was genuinely thrown for a loop in terms of how one particular character was written into the script. I should have seen this coming, but I didn’t, therefore I have to give credit to Christian Drew Sidaris for his writing talent in this particular production.
Film Facts: The Dallas Connection was written and directed by Christian Drew Sidaris (son of Andy Sidaris) and was produced by Andy and Arlene Sidaris. It was distributed by Malibu Bay Films and was released in October of 1994. Christian Drew Sidaris had previously directed Enemy Gold (1993) and played second unit director to all of his fathers previous films. The Dallas Connection stars several former Playboy and Penthouse models including Julie Strain as Black Widow (Penthouse Pet of the month for June of 1991). Samantha Phillips as Samantha Maxx (Penthouse Pet of the month for June of 1993 – also a stunningly beautiful woman). Julie K. Smith as Cobra (Penthouse Pet of the month for February of 1993) and Wendy Hamilton as Scorpion (Playboy Playmate of the month for December of 1991).
You can find out more about Andy Sidaris and his films at the Andy Sidaris Website run by his beautiful wife, Arlene Sidaris. You can also visit my review of Hard Ticket To Hawaii to learn a little more about Andy Sidaris.
Thoughts In My Head: – Nothing like boobs and bondage to start a Sidaris production – Do the Chinese really play golf – Exploding golf balls, oh my… – When I die, I want to cum and go at the same time – I thought all Asians had martial art skills, guess I was wrong – I’ve come to the conclusion that Julie Strain can’t act (but she looks amazing) – Now that the agents have their missions, it’s off to drink and have sex with each other – Is talking on your super-spy radio in ‘open public’ a smart thing to do – A pink wet suit on a man just doesn’t look right – “my mind is a blank” consider the source buddy – LOL, the super-spy radio’s are Sony Walkman’s – “should have read your fortune cookie” says the white man to the Asian (ouch) – Cobra has fabulous boobies
Favorite Badass or Badass Moment: Black Widow, she fucks’em then kills’em Favorite Boobs or Boobs in a Scene: Cobra, she has massive boobs for such a small-framed gal Favorite Death Scene: The RC car/jeep explosion (deadly toys are always a plus)
Boob Count: 13 pair Body Count: 11
IMDB Rating: 4.1 / 10 My Rating: 5.0 / 10
Final Thoughts: Christian Drew Sidaris showed signs of improvement over his last film entry, Enemy Gold (1993). The Dallas Connection is slightly better in terms of production, pace and story, therefore making it a slightly more enjoyable film. One I can say I’ll revisit at a later time.
